I was invited by At Home Artist Project to participate in a new kind of socially distant collaboration. I was prompted to choose a painting to inspire a dancer/choreographer to create a piece. I chose Toulouse-Lautrec’s Ballet Dancers and prompted Juliane to choreograph a dance that took place both inside and outside of a single foot light.
The single foot light felt like a strong theatrical choice to give Juliane to build a story around the duality of the onstage and offstage life of a dancer. It was also logistically an image that I knew would be achievable and impactful on a shoestring budget.
